FAIRFIELD TWP. — For the second time in his educational career, Steve Gillens will be the athletic director at Cincinnati Christian Schools.
Gillens, who spent four years as the CCS AD in the early 1980s, was named the new AD on Monday, April 27.
Gillens, 56, replaces Matt Coleman, who announced in February he’s heading to Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy at the end of the school year to be its new AD.
Gillens will begin his duties as CCS AD on June 7.
“It’s a dream come true,” Gillens said. “Of course, lots has changed (since the first time he held the job). The school has been through a lot of ups and downs since then. It’s a great opportunity to serve in another capacity other than teaching and coaching.”
Gillens has been a member of the CCS faculty since 1978, after graduating from Evangel College in Springfield, Mo.
Currently, he is the assistant AD and varsity softball coach, and teaches civics, world geography and middle school boys Bible.
“It’s a great opportunity for the school, and for myself,” Gillens said. “They’re hiring someone that’s family with the school and knows the culture of the school.”
During his 31-year tenure at CCS, Gillens has also coached varsity girls basketball, junior high and varsity boys basketball, and junior high boys soccer and golf.
“I know the alumni wants to be a part of this school,” Gillens said. “I want to continue that relationship. I want to continue to see the facilities taken care of, and get the campus growing.”
Gillens’ first order of business is to fill the vacant varsity boys basketball and varsity boys golf coaching positions.
