Several area high school football players are finalists for the 43rd annual National Football Foundation’s “That’s My Boy” award, according to a press release Monday, Feb. 1, from the NFF’s Cincinnati Chapter.
Monroe’s Ben Leahy, Lakota West’s Alex Savage, Badin’s Matt Shamp and Ross’ Casey Vatter are among the finalists for the award. Other finalists from Ohio are Will Carroll (St. Xavier), Chris Cooper (Turpin), Kevin Cripe (Anderson), Jeff Elam (Batavia), Lucien Kidd (North College Hill), Harry Meisner (Wyoming), Branden Nelson (Aiken) and Andrew Perkins (CHCA).
The finalists for Northern Kentucky are Austin Collinsworth (Highlands), Tate Nichols (Ryle), Wes Smith (Dixie) and Nick West (Conner).
The award is based upon the accumulation of points in three areas: football achievement(s), academic achievement and extracurricular and community activities.
Solomon Wilcots, a football analyst for CBS and former Cincinnati Bengal, will be the keynote speaker at the Scholar-Athlete dinner, which will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 18, in the Hall of Mirrors at the Cincinnati Hilton Netherland Plaza.
Dr. Angelo J. Colosimo of Cincinnati Bearcats Sports Medicine, who is also the team doctor for UC, will receive the NFF Chapter’s “Contribution to Amateur Football” award.
The Anthony Munoz Foundation will present its Offensive Lineman and Defensive Lineman of the Year awards and the Marvin Lewis Community Fund will present its Coach of the Year Award.
