LAKOTA WEST IN CONSOLATION ROUND: After wins over Wooster and Walsh Jesuit, the Lakota West Firebirds lost a close match to Rocky River Magnificat (15-2) in the semifinals of the Mentor Invitational, Saturday Oct. 3, for the school’s only loss this season. West handed Wooster (6-7) a 25-12, 25-15 loss in the opening round. They then swept Walsh Jesuit (9-8) in the second round by scores of 25-13, 25-22. Magnificat (15-2) rallied for a 21-25, 25-15, 25-21 win in the semis. West, now 15-1 overall, will play Toledo Notre Dame at 1 p.m. in the consolation round.
INDIANS SPLIT READING TRI-MATCH: The Fairfield Indians (6-11) defeated host Reading 25-16, 21-25 and 25-17, but then lost to Kings 25-20, 25-11 to earn a split at Saturday’s Oct. 3 tri-match in Cincinnati. Beth Willis (11 kills, 11 digs), Christi Grimes (7 kills, 41 assists) and Taylor Berryman (8 kills, 8 blocks) each posted solid numbers in the two matches. The Indians will celebrate Senior Night on Tuesday when they’ll play host to Colerain.
NEW MIAMI 3, MIAMI VALLEY 1: Kayla Phillips had three aces, Kim Gault had two aces, 11 kills and 10 digs and Heather Thacker turned in 11 digs with 8 kills to lead New Miami to a 25-18, 17-25, 28-26, 25-20 win over Miami Valley Christian Academy on Saturday. The Vikings will return to Miami Valley Conference play on Monday when they’ll play a 6 p.m. varsity start at Seven Hills.

BADIN 0, EDGEWOOD 0: Caitlin Shafor earned the shutout in goal for the Badin Rams. Sarah Hannon earned the shutout for Edgewood and had 16 saves in the scoreless tie. Badin’s Sydnee Fields, Ashley Mahoney, Abby Stapf, Kim Golden and Sammy Koerner were each recognized for solid play. Badin is now 6-4-2 overall; Edgewood is 5-4-2.
URSULINE 2, LAKOTA EAST 1: Desirae Ball scored both goals for Ursuline Academy in Saturday’s nonleague win over Lakota East. The Thunderhawks’ lone goal was scored by Kaitlyn Buczek. East is now 6-5-1 overall.

CINCINNATI CHRISTIAN 4, DEER PARK 0: Justin Langhammer scored a pair of goals for CCS while teammates Merrell and Jamie Baillie each scored a goal in Saturday’s win over Deer Park. Goaltender Ben Snyder had one save to record the shutout. CCS (6-6-1) will host Cincinnati Country Day on Tuesday. Deer Park is 3-8.
