5 area high school teams make football playoffs

After weeks of predictions, projections and number crunching, the field is finally set.

The Ohio School Athletic Association announced on Sunday, Nov. 1, the 32 teams in each of the six divisions who will vie for state football championships.

In Butler County, those teams are Badin (Division V, Region 20), Ross (Division II, Region 8), Lakota West (Division I, Region 4), Middletown (Division I, Region 4) and Monroe (Division III, Region 12).

• Badin (7-3) is in the postseason for the second straight season and 18th time overall. The Rams, the seventh seed, travel to No. 2 Coldwater (9-1) on Friday night. Badin won a state title in 1990.

The Cavaliers are in the postseason for the 13th consecutive year, and 15th overall. They won state titles in 2005 and 2007.

• Ross (6-4) is in the postseason for the first time since 2001. The Rams are the seventh seed and will travel to No. 2 Winton Woods (8-2) on Friday night.

The Warriors are in the playoffs for the fifth straight year, and sixth time overall.

• The Firebirds (9-1) are in the playoffs for the third time. The sixth seed, they’ll travel to No. 3 Anderson (10-0) on Saturday.

The Redskins are making their 10th postseason appearance. They won a D-II state title in 2007.

• The Middies (9-1) are in the playoffs for the first time since 1990. The seventh seed, they’ll travel to No. 2 Moeller (9-1) on Saturday. The Middies are making their fourth playoff appearance.

The Crusaders, who won seven state championships in the 1970s and ’80s, are in the postseason for the 28th time, including the last eight years.

• The Hornets (8-2) are back in the playoffs after a one-year hiatus. They’ll travel to No. 3 Chaminade Julienne on Friday night. It’s the eighth playoff appearance for No. 6 Monroe, which advanced to the state semifinals in 2005 and 2007.

The Eagles are in the playoffs for the 11th time, their first appearance since 2005. CJ won a state title in 2002.

Presale tickets will be sold at the participating schools for $7. Cost will be $9 at the gate.

Division III, Region 12

No. 7 Middletown (9-1) at No. 2 Moeller (9-1)

Wow--how poorly can a story be written. Do NOT assume we all know the mascots of each school so we can tell when/where they are playing--who really cares if you know the nicknames or symbols. Use the school name so information can be shared... duh
