FAIRFIELD — In the works for more than three years, the first Fairfield Sports Stag is scheduled for March 27.

“Tim Viox and I started talking about it a few years ago when he was still the football coach,” said FHS athletic boosters president Paul Hurst Jr.

“We’ve been working on getting our feet under us and we just got to the place where we can pull it off.”

The stag’s theme is “Honoring Our Past and Looking to the Future,” and it will run from 6 to 11 p.m. at Tori Station, 75 Donald Drive.

The cost is $40 person or $75 per couple, as Hurst Jr. noted that women are welcome and encouraged despite the “stag” label. Coaches will be admitted for just $20.

The keynote speaker will be former school board member, athletic director and football coach Ben Hubbard, who led the Indians to the 1986 AAA state championship.

“The is the first ever stag at Fairfield, and I think it’s only appropriate that coach Hubbard be the speaker because he’s the one who really put a stamp on Fairfield athletics in the ’80s,” current football coach Aaron Fitzstephens said.

“I was just 6 years old when they won the state title, so I’m really looking forward to hearing some of the old stories and getting to know him a little better.”

The City of Fairfield will issue a pair of special proclamations, and the boosters also will honor all of the coaches in the district and a number of youth programs.

The cost of the ticket includes a meal and soft drinks, and there will be a cash bar.

The night also will feature live and silent auctions and a split-the-pot contest, along with a slide show featuring photos of some of the greatest athletic moments throughout Fairfield sports history.

The master of ceremonies will be FHS Athletic Director Mark Harden.

“We’re looking forward to having a good time and raising some money for the kids of this district,” Hurst Jr. said.

“Fundraising is even more important these days in light of the budget cuts that were just announced.

‘‘The proceeds will benefit all sports from grades seven through 12.”

Tickets can be purchased online at www.the
registrationspot.com or by calling Lisa Dulli at (513) 312-1171. The deadline to purchase tickets is March 18.
