The Tim Tebow bandwagon is filling up, but not everybody is fighting for a seat. Miami Dolphins quarterback Chad Henne this week said, “My judgment is that he’s not an NFL quarterback. I’ll leave it at that.”

Henne spoke in reaction to the Florida QB’s latest audition for pro scouts in which his overhauled throwing mechanics impressed such luminaries as Cleveland Browns president Mike Holmgren and NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock.

Holmgren thought Tebow looked a bit robotic and wondered whether he could repeat his streamlined delivery under pressure, but he spoke highly of him overall, giving rise to rumors of genuine interest. Mayock called Tebow’s improved motion “ridiculous,” meaning that in the good way.

And then there was Henne, doubtless becoming the first NFL player to issue such a critical public assessment of a draft prospect.

The league now seeks to capitalize on the controversy. Tebow, who only recently was thought to be a mid- to low-round pick, has been invited to the draft, an honor typically reserved for consensus top few picks.

The draft is a TV show first and foremost, and Tebow should boost ratings. He’ll occupy the same “green room” that housed a fretting Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn three years ago as he watched so many picks fly off the board without hearing his name called.

Not sure why I care, but here’s hoping it ends better for Tebow.
