With scientific evidence emerging every day that humans and industry are contributors to global warming, Cox Enterprises, the parent company of the Journal-News and one of the nation's leading media companies, has committed to a leadership role in conserving natural resources and protecting the environment.
Steps We're Taking
Cox is making several moves to go green, beginning with the launch of Cox Conserves, a program led by Mike Mannheimer, vice president and chief procurement officer, Keith Mask, director, energy management and energy systems engineering and Patsy Brownson, director of fleet management. The goal of Cox Conserves is simple: reduce our annual company-wide carbon footprint, or greenhouse gas emissions, by 20 percent over the next 10 years.
What We've Done
Since 2000, Cox's Energy Management and Fleet Management departments have implemented energy-saving measures at several company sites. These efforts include efficient heating and cooling systems, green evergy sources, hybrid fleet vehicles and more. The result? Cox has already eliminated the production of 118,000 tons of greenhouse gases (GHG's) but there is still much to do. Our current "carbon footprint" is more than 832,000 tons of GHG's so our 20 percent goal translates into a reduction of an additional 166,000 tons of GHS's!
