The San Francisco 49ers continue adding young talent for their upcoming rookie minicamp. The minicamp will run May 10-12, and as the title of it indicates, only rookies will be in attendance. The latest rookie to reportedly be joining the group is Anthony Davis' brother.
Cam Inman is reporting that Andre Davis is a 6'5 295 pound defensive end from Kentucky Christian out of the NAIA. Davis is 26 years old, three years older than Anthony. It appears Andre began his college career at Long Island University, but has since bounced around. He finished his college career at Kentucky Christian, but it is noteworthy that he appears to have played briefly at City College of San Francisco 2006 or 2007. I'm not positive on that, but the information seems to match up. CCSF has a very strong football program, and has had numerous well known transfers.
Davis joins Nate Montana as one of two players invited to try out at the rookie minicamp. They do not get contracts. They simply get an opportunity to impress the coaching staff and earn a contract for OTAs and training camp. There will likely be additional players invited to provide enough options for various drills. As it currently stands, with these two invites, the draft class, and the reported undrafted free agent signings, here is a bit of a rookie depth chart for next week's minicamp:
QB: B.J. Daniels, Nate Montana, MarQueis Gray
RB: D.J. Harper, Marcus Lattimore (likely to sit out drills)
FB: Alex Debniak
TE: Vance McDonald, MarQueis Gray
WR: Quinton Patton, MarQueis Gray, Chuck Jacobs
OT: Carter Bykowski, Luke Marquardt
OG: Patrick Omameh
C: Sherman Carter
Some players are listed twice due to reports of multiple potential positions. B.J. Daniels was a quarterback at South Florida, but the team has indicated he will likely get some opportunities on special teams. Marqueis Gray played quarterback at Minnesota and reportedly can fit into a handful of positions.
Expect some additional signings and tryout additions between now and May 10.
