HAMILTON — The Mad Anthony Theatre Company brings the green to the fore with its new show “Golf: the Musical,” playing Wednesday, May 19, through May 23 at the Fitton Center for Creative Arts.

A satiric look at the game, “Golf: The Musical” is a revue with some skits that both embrace and poke fun at the likes of caddies, clubs and carts. And one does not have to be a golfing aficionado to enjoy this show, said director Henry Cepluch.

“I don’t care about golf at all, but this is for golfers, nongolfers and golfers’ widows,” he said.

The avid golfer “is going to get things the rest of us wouldn’t. For the nongolfer, it’s a chance to sit there and make fun of the game you don’t want to participate in or watch on TV. The golfer’s widow is going to sit there and watch this show very knowingly,” Cepluch said.

Mad Anthony’s production has even managed to be topical and up to date.

“With Tiger Woods, we had to do a bit of rewriting of the lyrics to accommodate his recent travails,” Cepluch said, referring to Woods’ infidelity scandal.

The cast contains four people: Ben Schneider, Burt McCollum, Jim Ward and Michelle Lewis, the last of whom is the golfer of the bunch.

“Of any sport, golfers seem to be the ones who have such a passion for that they do, with the famous people in the sport and the exclusivity of the sport,” Lewis said.

What’s more, Lewis sees her own experiences reflected in the musical.

“I serve as the unappreciated, lonely lady golfer. I know there are men who don’t think I’m serious. They humor you and don’t think you can play,” she said.
