FAIRFIELD — The Art on Symmes Gallery is giving artist Jenni Doerger her very first exhibit containing all her own artwork.
The show opens today, Oct. 17, with a reception from noon to 4 p.m. The artwork will hang through the end of November.
Consisting of about 15 pieces of acrylic on canvas, the exhibit reveals the bright colors of Doerger’s work, and the artist agrees that’s one of her prime assets. So it follows that she likes to paint sunflowers, for instance.
“I like a lot of color. I’m very big on color. I use multiple strokes of different colors that make up a small area. People say seeing my work makes them happy, and that makes me feel good,” Doerger said.
Sherry Armstead, the owner of Art on Symmes, had seen Doerger’s work in area art shows and was looking for an opportunity to bring her in.
“I’d worked with her when I organized a lot of art fairs, and her work was far above everything I was seeing,” Armstead said. “Her colors are bright and vibrant and give you a sense of feeling good about what you’re looking at.”
The show also represents a success story for Doerger, a Hamilton County artist who has battled an auto-immune disease that prevents her from working with certain materials, such as pottery.
“I have to work with nontoxic products, and that happens to be watercolors and acrylics,” Doerger said.
