HAMILTON — In the coffee houses and music stages of the Tri-State, she’s known as Janie Rae, leader of the Janie Rae Band.
But by day, her small furry patients know her as Dr. Wilson.
“I’m a small animal veterinarian by day at Harrison Animal Hospital in Harrison, Ohio,” she said. “That was my dream since I was 10 years old. (I) was called to it.”
But she was also called to music, and will perform Tuesday, Jan. 24, as part of the next Music Cafe at the Fitton Center for Creative Arts.
“Music is something that’s a part of you,” she said. “It can almost be like breathing, something you have to do to live.”
The other member of the band is bass player Joe Schreibeis.
Their influences include Bonnie Raitt, Amos Lee, Norah Jones, Etta James and Over the Rhine, Wilson said, but they will mostly perform her original tunes, “with a few fun covers thrown in.”
Joe Kretschmer, better known to fans as “Papa Joe,” will open the evening with a tribute to Stephen Foster, who died 148 years ago on Jan. 13, 1864. Papa Joe will perform some of the lesser-known songs of America’s first popular singer/songwriter.
Also on the bill are pop Keith May, Tyler Muchmore and Jeff Gaither.
