The Miami Valley Symphony Orchestra, Dayton’s nonprofessional classical music troupe, will open its 20th season with a fall concert featuring an oncologist with special skills.

MVSO’s fall concert will showcase the talents of guest pianist Dr. Glenn Harmon.

Harmon will run his nimble fingers through Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 and works by other Russian composers.

Harmon, a practicing physician, was born in Lenoir, N.C. He holds a bachelor of science degree from North Carolina State University and obtained his medical degree from the University of North Carolina.

Since 1999, he has been a hematologist and medical oncologist at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota.

As a solo pianist, Harmon has performed extensively throughout the United States, Canada and Europe.

MVSO’s fall concert will be led by conductor and music director Kenneth Kohlenberg, professor of music at Sinclair Community College.
