FAIRFIELD — When Livingston Taylor comes here March 13 for his appearance at the Sojourner Concert series, he’ll be visiting one of his favorite states.
“I’m so looking forward to getting back to the great state of Ohio. It’s one of my favorite places to play,” he said.
That’s largely because of the people and their upbeat demeanor, Taylor said.
“I have a kinship with the people who live there. They’re perceptive and functional. It’s a can-do state, and I feel that way about myself,” he said.
Taylor, who plays piano and guitar, said he would play songs that are familiar to people. Those may include songs such as “I Will Be in Love With You” (a Top 40 hit in 1978) and “I’ll Come Running.”
“I get on stage and I start playing. If I get a good response, I just move more to that (musical) area,” said Taylor, who is the brother of musician James Taylor.
The set list will also include songs from Taylor’s newest album, “Last Alaska Moon,” from which he may sing the title track and “Answer My Prayer.”
“There are lots of different songs I love to play from that CD,” Taylor said.
The Sojourner series is well known for its storytellers format, in which the performers talk about the history behind their tunes — and that’s fine with Taylor, who said that makes for an “easy fit” for him.
“I hope people get taken on a very pleasant journey,” Taylor said. “They enter my reality and away we go. People express to me that I’m fairly good doing that.”
The Sojourner concert series has raised between $80,000 and $90,000 for Sojourner Recovery Services, which offers programs to help people beat drug and alcohol dependency.
