West Chester’s annual Christmas Walk steps off this weekend, offering additional draws.

The Christmas Walk, during which businesses in Olde West Chester along Cincinnati-Dayton Road host open houses and other activities, returned last year after a two-year hiatus.

The two-day event begins at 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, with open houses in businesses along the mile-and-a-half stretch of Cincinnati-Dayton Road. The evening continues with the annual tree lighting ceremony at 7 p.m. at the Township Administration Building, at the corner of Cincinnati-Dayton and West Chester roads.

Following the ceremony, there will be a Christmas Walk Dance, which runs from 8 to 11 p.m. The dance, with a theme “Some Enchanted Evening,” takes place at the St. John’s Center, 9080 Cincinnati-Dayton Road, according to the organization’s Web site.

The cost is $8 per person, $15 per couple in advance or $9 per person at the door Friday evening.

The walk begins at noon Saturday, Nov. 14, with businesses hosting open houses and offering raffles, door prizes, free gifts and more.

Situated along Cincinnati-Dayton Road will be tethered hot air balloon rides, a car show, animals, “make ‘n take crafts,” games and two dozen vendor booths sponsored by Focus on Youth.

Saturday’s festivities end following the 7 p.m. parade that begins at the former Union Elementary School off Cincinnati-Dayton Road.

Olde West Chester is dead and gone. What a shame township trustees wasted hundreds of thousands of taxpayer money on a new designer sidewalk while "for sale" signs popped up everywhere and other buildings were torn down, now decorated with 100 foot electric poles and vacant lots. Now the same trustees are promising to revive the RT42 corridor, like anyone believes that.
