MASON — Spice up the standard Wednesday night fare with a trip to Taste of Mason — where food and entertainment from around the globe meet for an evening of unforgettable family fun.
For the fifth year in a row, Mason City Schools Diversity Council, in partnership with Mason High School, is hosting the event to celebrate the many different cultures thriving within the schools and community.
“People seem to like to stay and listen to the entertainment and enjoy the fare,” said Mason City Schools Associate Superintendent and Diversity Council Chairwoman Amy Spicher.
According to the district, Mason City Schools’ vision is to “build an equitable, inclusive and responsive learning community which values the dignity and uniqueness of all students, staff and members of the community.”
Events like the Taste of Mason help the district reach its vision.
Local vendors showcasing the delicious side of Mason’s diversity will include: Aponte’s Italian restaurant; Banana Leaf Modern Thai; BD’s Mongolian Grill - Chinese; Brazenhead Irish Pub; CafĂ© Bella – Ethiopian; Cazadores Mexican; Chan’s Asian Wok; Mason Grill – Greek; Rotbart’s Deli - Russian; Soho Japanese Bistro and Oleg’s German Family Restaurant.
The event also includes performances from local talent.
The lineup includes pianist Vidita Kannikeswaran; the Mason High School Choral and Jazz performing groups.
Also performing will be Cincinnayi Baila! — Mexican Folkloric Dance; Mason High School Percussion Ensemble and Drumline; I.K. Kim Ja Be Ruy Tae Kwon Do; Chinese School performance – Feng; Nigerian Solo Drum performance — Baoku Moses; Bollywood Indian dancing — Prabhakar and Karanam; Chinese School — Dancing Ducklings; and Colombia Viva.
