Jerzeys good mix for family, sports fans

The ‘z’ in the name isn’t the only thing that sets Jerzeys apart from other area sports bars. The Liberty Twp. pub offers up a family-friendly vibe, with cornhole available in the dining room and a menu full of double-pattied burgers and sugary desserts.

“We wanted to have a carnival-like atmosphere for the kids, so we added deep fried Twinkies, funnel cake fries and sugared pretzels,” said Manager Brian Bladdos.

The deep fried Twinkies are lighter than others on the market as they’re battered in pancake mix and covered with raspberry sauce. The creme gushes from the middle when you bite down, creating a taste sensation similar to the old campground S’mores.

Even though Jerzeys was designed with kids in mind, adults will find it suitable for sports watching and beer drinking, as there’s a full ticket of Major League Baseball and NFL games available. Twenty televisions, all tuned to sports, are scattered throughout Jerzeys and the full-service bar has a variety of beers on tap.

“The owners support sports down to the local teams, sponsoring Lakota football and soccer,” Bladdos said.

The double-pattied Angus burgers are customer favorites at the pub, with the popular Hunka Hunka Burnin Love, combining pepper jack cheese and Jamaican BBQ sauce. Customers can also build their own, with a variety of traditional toppings, and all burgers are just $5 on Wednesday. Other sandwiches include grilled chicken, the Jerzeys club, Jerzeys Famous Fish and the house Reuben. There’s also a dinner menu with items like fettuccine alfredo, spaghetti and fish and chips that’s offered all day.

A small patio provides outdoor seating for most of the year, and while the inside is small, there is plenty of family-style seating. The prices are affordable and the portions are large so no one will go home hungry. Jerzeys will accommodate small private parties for up to 40 people with advance notice and carry out is available with a 15-minute wait time. Happy Hour is every day from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and the kitchen closes one hour before the bar.
