"Northeast meets Midwest" is the motto of the newly opened Pier 27 Beer Garden & Grill in Ross. The former site of The Farm was reopened in February with the inspiration behind the decor coming from the owner's childhood.
"I was born and raised in Maine, and this atmosphere is reminiscent of the privately owned restaurants on the coast," said owner Chris Hill.
Customers are greeted with a warm fire and rustic decor upon entering Pier 27, complete with stuffed deer and fish on the walls. The dining room is separate from the bar and seats about 60, and there is a small area for acoustic entertainment on Friday and Saturday nights.
As for the menu, seafood lovers will enjoy the wide selection, but meat lovers will also find plenty to choose from.
"We have something on our menu for everybody including some of the food we served at The Farm," Hill said.
The entire menu is served all day and House Specialties include Rockport Tilapia, fried clams, 12-ounce double boned pork chops topped with crumbled blue cheese and bacon, and the Fresh Catch Pasta which features a daily seafood served on different pasta choices.
Specialty sandwiches include the Crabby Patty, which is a crab cake served with swiss cheese, grilled onion and Pier 27's special bistro sauce. The Farm Filet comes from the old menu and is Fried Bologna on a Bun, and the Hot Turkey Pretzel is deli sliced turkey grilled with honey mustard and swiss cheese and served on a pretzel roll.
Pier 27 is a family-run business and Hill is not only the owner but the main chef. His mother-in-law also contributes to the menu by offering home made soups and salads like the Loaded Baked Potato and BLT with Ranch. Kids of all ages can enjoy the smaller portioned Little Minnow Meals featuring grilled cheese, mini corn dogs and chicken tenders. The dessert menu at Pier 27 is still in the development stage and deep fried cheese cake is the only item that is currently available. The restaurant also has a game room for children.
Pier 27 offers a full line of catering services on or off site and Hill is adding a new deck and remodeling the back grounds of the restaurant so customers can eat outside by summer. The restaurant has a full service bar and draft beer is now available with Happy Hour running from 4-6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Private parties can be hosted at Pier 27 and reservations are currently being accepted for Spring, Summer and Fall.
