CD REVIEW
Local band Okeanas releases 'Butler County' album
Friday, February 09, 2007
This band is Americana all the way. Its newest album, "Butler County," serves as proof. Good ole boys through and through, the members of Okeanas tell tales of lost love, travels and change through an eclectic mix of hillbilly and rock style.
Extras
Hometown loyalties ring true in "Joe Nuxhall," a tribute to the comfort The Ol' Lefthander's voice brings to travelers. With such lyrics as, "I'm gonna miss Joe when he's gone, 'cuz he's the one we could always count on ...", the song was Okeanas' first release and has aired on local radio.
Most of the album's 11 songs (10 tracks and one bonus) are dance-worthy. I found myself humming along to "The Rust & The Rain," and tapping my toes throughout "Obediah." But the one I'd put a quarter in the jukebox for is "Back Home Again." It has a fun, bad-boy feel to it; by far the most rebellious tune on the album.
Want to check it out? The CD will be available for purchase and Okeanas will perform at Galaxy CDs in Hamilton beginning at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, 2007.
