Community artists on view in Fairfield

For the 2007 Community Artists Showcase at the Fairfield Community Arts Center, Mary Seniours' photograph of a man's hands in prayer captured best of show, earning her a full-blown exhibition, which opens this weekend.

Seniours, who had recently moved to Fairfield from Kentucky, took the photo at an educational program on the practices of the Jewish Feast of the Pentecost, also known as "the Feast of Harvest," offered by Word Truth Ministries.

But that's just one facet of her work, she said, and this exhibition will allow her to show the full scope.

"I want to be open to all kinds of photographs and have a broad spectrum of work," she said.

Part of that includes photographs from recent mission trips she's taken to the Philippines and Mexico, but there are only a few of those in this exhibition.

"Eventually, I want to be able to use my photographs to bring some awareness to the public of the things I've seen on my mission trips," she said. "This is just the beginning for me. I have a passion for both photography and missions, I want to help out where I can."

Seniours' photos will be complemented by the primitive paintings of Cincinnati artist Clifford Bright III and his "Celebration of Life," a collection of brightly colored paintings inspired by his cycling journeys and visits to local parks.
