Smart driver course may keep you safe, confident, mobile

AARP SMART DRIVER SAFETY COURSE

This four-hour course helps keep drivers updated, safe, confident and mobile. It includes strategies that can reduce the likelihood of a crash and to understand the links between driver, vehicle and road environments. It also includes strategies for adapting to changes in individuals, roads and the vehicles. Cost is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members. Classes are being conducted throughout the Miami Valley during the year. Find a nearby class at www.AARPdriversafety.org. Pre-registration is required. An online course is also available. Each participant receives a certificate of completion which may result in discounted vehicle insurance rates.

APRIL 23

HOLLYWOOD DAYTON GAMING RACEWAY, noon-4 p.m., registration begins at 10 a.m., Hollywood Gaming Dayton's north parking lot, 777 Hollywood Blvd., Dayton. Free admission; open to all car enthusiasts and all ages. Limited number of entries; available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Live music by the Ashley Martin Band. Each participating car enthusiast will receive $10 in dining credits valid at Hollywood Gaming. Awards to best hot rod/street rod; best antique or classic (restored to original cars, not modified); best sports car (little two-seaters, imports, can be stock or modified); best modern car (cars built from 1996 to now); best truck or pickup truck. Entrants to determine their class when they sign in. Category will be placed on the window for judging purposes. Judging will begin at 2 p.m. Participants must be registered by then to be eligible for prizes. Each winner to receive trophy, $250 cash and gift basket from Hollywood Gaming.

MAY 20

SPRING CRUISE-IN AT ST. LEONARD FRANCISCAN LIVING COMMUNITY, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., 8100 Clyo Road, Centerville. Free admission, parking. All makes, models welcome. Two large trophies – Residents' Choice Award and Director's Choice Award. Grilled hot dogs, hamburgers, 50/50 raffle to benefit Alzheimer's Association.
