Auction: Items of Dr. Henry Heimlich up for sale

The personal collection of Dr. Henry Heimlich, the famed inventor of a maneuver to help chocking victims, is up for auction online.

Everything But the House is conducting the auction, based out of Blue Ash. Approximately 85 items are for sale, and the auction ends on Sunday at 5:45 p.m. Several items for sale were gifts or acquired by Heimlich during his time abroad.

Items for sale include a collection of Chinese Soapstone Seals, a Chinese Dragon Court Robe and even Chinese currency from the World War II era. Several pieces of furniture and other home decor items are also for sale. Current bids for some items are more than $1,800.

“My understanding is that they were tokens of appreciation given by people whom he had medically treated,” his daughter Janet Heimlich told Everything But the House. “When I think about my father The Humanitarian, I don’t only think about his medical innovations, I also think about how he felt personally connected to so many individuals who owed their lives to his work.”

Heimlich died in mid-December after complications from a massive heart attack at 96 years old.
