Newly remodeled building resumes bingo games in Middletown

A remodeled former roller skating rink is the city’s newest event rental space.

Crown Palaza Banquet Center has opened at 6962 Coles Road, and on Sunday it premiered a new bingo game.

Gary Gill and his brother Sunny Singh purchased the 12,960-square-foot building from Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3809 last August.

The brothers have given the 59-year-old building a complete makeover and have obtained licenses to operate bingo.

The building, which also was a roller skating rink in the past, was purchased for $160,000, according to the Warren County Auditor’s Office.

“It was a good deal that we couldn’t refuse,” Gill said.

The brothers also own the nearby Crown East Mini Mart gas station on the corner of Dixie Highway and Coles Road.

The bingo game sponsored by the VFW for more than 30 years closed in late 2015.

Gill said the new bingo operator runs two other bingo games in the Dayton area. The proceeds of the twice-weekly bingo game, on Sunday afternoon and Monday evenings, will benefit the Mason Grizzlies youth sports organization.

“I think we can compete with other bingos in the area,” Gill said. “We’re going to be the best.”

He said they will be focusing on all kinds of events at the center.

“What helps us is that we know Middletown,” Gill said. “We’ve been here 15 years. The bingo will help pay the bills.”

The newly remodelled banquet hall has new tile flooring, new doors, windows and acoustic ceiling, a larger bar, renovated kitchen, bride and groom rooms, storage space and offices.

In addition, the hall also features four large screen and six smaller screen televisions mounted on the walls. The building, which has a capacity of 600 people has been painted inside and out. The brothers left the disco mirror ball that is over the dance floor.

Gill said he’s already getting calls for dates and said he has bookings through December.

“It’s going to take a little time,” he said. “It’s a project.
