Hamilton pizza restaurant plans new location

A new Domino’s will be built in Hamilton on a site that formerly was home to a White Castle restaurant.

The new location at 1987 S. Erie Blvd. will replace an existing one nearby on the same street, according to Chris Metro, a supervisor with Southern Ohio Pizza, which owns 20 Domino’s locations in Southwest Ohio.

The new location is set to open by June, according to Metro. About 25 employees will move to the new location and “at least another 20” employees will be hired, he said.

“We wanted to stay in that area,” Metro said. “Hamilton has been great to us. Out of our 20 units, it was the third and the fourth stores that my dad built. Whenever we have the opportunity to purchase land and build our own buildings, we take advantage of it.”

Domino’s also is remodeling an existing location at 1440 Haldimand Ave. on Hamilton’s West Side. That restaurant will be expanded to allow for additional cooler space and its interior will be remodeled, Metro said. That project is expected to be completed by the end of February.

The overall investment of both projects is projected to be around $1.5 million and will include the chain’s new Pizza Theater model with open-area viewing to see each pizza being made, plus seating for 30 to 40 guests, a drive-thru for carryout orders, flatscreen TVs and free WiFi.

The 58 Cincinnati area Domino’s locations plan to continue to invest heavily in renovations and relocations in the next two years, Metro said.

Domino’s has shifted over the years from a business model that primarily focused on delivery and take-out orders to a sit-down dining destination, he said.

“Where we can we’re putting seats in, we’re knocking walls down, we’re tearing soffits out,” Metro said. “That’s kind of the goal, opening up the kitchen … and kind of shifting a little bit from ‘We’re around the corner, a little bit hidden’ to now we’re trying to be front-and-center, visible.”
