Angela Terez said the ODJFS Labor Market staff believes Butler County’s unemployment rate “likely rose because more people were looking for jobs, plus seasonal layoffs (for example, some school workers, such as bus drivers and cafeteria employees).”

In good news, “Butler County’s labor force has increased over the last year, which likely means people are having more confidence in the economy,” Terez added.

Ohio’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 5.0 percent in June, up from 4.9 percent in May, and also up from 4.9 percent last June. The department reported Ohio’s number of unemployed workers was 291,000, up from 286,000 in May.
