What are the best “girly” drinks?
My husband brews his own beer. It’s an interesting, messy hobby, but the downside is that he and I have divergent tastes when it comes to beer. I like lighter beers (color, not calories) and those that have flavor without being too bitter, like Blue Moon and Stella Artois. He’s a nut for dark stouts like Guinness and lagers like Heineken. I can usually take a sip of these and appreciate their qualities but I could never drink a full bottle, pint or glass.
Yes, having a beer lab in the kitchen has inadvertently turned us into beer snobs. There are worse things in life. I’m a bit amazed that I can correctly identify the difference between a lager and a stout.
I rarely drink as it is, having burned out most of my lust for alcohol in my early college years, but when I do, beer is not my adult beverage of choice. I typically opt for “girly” drinks.
My first choices are Mike’s Hard Lemonade and Smirnoff Ice, whichever is available, in pretty much any flavor. My mom is also partial to Mike’s, but she’ll only drink the original lemonade flavor.
When I’m celebrating something, I’ll usually have a margarita. For my birthday a few weeks ago, we went to a Mexican restaurant and I got an enormous mango margarita that my friends had to help me finish. But we don’t have a functioning blender at home, so margaritas are still special-occasion-only for me.
And if I’m just having a drink with dinner at a restaurant, I’ll usually get a rum and Coke or cranberry juice with vodka. (Funny story: When I was younger and heard people refer to rum and Coke, I thought they were saying Roman Coke.)
As you can see, I like ‘em sweet, and knowing how many calories a typical girly drink contains is enough to keep me from over-consuming. But I know other women who avoid all things frozen and fruity in favor of beer or wine. I respect that. In most other areas of my life, I’m not a girly girl anyway, so to each her own.
Did I leave out your favorite drink? Tell me about it in the comments below - chances are I have probably never heard of it.

What about whisky or amaretto sours?

Bea - I love amaretto sours! Can’t believe I didn’t think of that - although they don’t jump to the front of my mind when I think about girly drinks. Debbie - I had a cocktail at Max & Erma’s last weekend called the Chocolate Truffle, involving Godiva chocolate liqueur, amaretto and hot cocoa…it really warms you up from the inside out. :)

How ‘bout a Cosmo! I make the best that knock u on ur butt so I save it as a treat - like last night! But if I’m out, I’ll get wine, more for your money and a lot classier. My hubby makes his own beer too! He’s an engineer so he does all kinds of different things; and I like the lighter and hoppier beers.

I brew my own beer, and I’m one chick that likes beer over hard liquor. However, in the spirit of this poll, I’ll add Mexican Coke with Coconut or Vanilla rum.

Long Island’s are hardly a girly drink, a real one(not from mix)has 5 shots of alcohol in it.

Brad, a ‘girly drink’ is ‘girly’ because it doesn’t taste like alcohol, not because it has low alcohol content. Many ‘girly drink’ are pretty strong, they just taste like fruit, tea, etc.

I am a bit embarrassed that I left out Cosmopolitans, which has been the cocktail of choice with my parents for the past year or so. And to “a mom,” my mom also makes a mean Cosmo - I can usually only drink one in a sitting! I think brewing appeals to engineers (my hubby is one too) - they just NEED to know how things work/are made. :)

Martinis are strictly “male” drinks in my book. Strong and basically pure alcohol. Still love ‘em though. Have you been to Sidebar? Check out their amaretto fizz!! YUMMMMMMY and very girly!

The answer to “what are the best girly drinks” is whatever they like to drink.

As Brad said, a L.I.I.T is hardly a girlie drink. Same goes for vodka martinis.

Excuse me, but per wrong’s definition, my fav martini definately qualifies as a ‘girly’ drink: 2 parts cherry vodka, 1 part white creme de caco - a chocolate covered cherry martini!

There are plenty of girly drinks out there, depending on your mood — but I have two favorites, both of which are VERY girly! One is to mix vanilla vodka wiht either (diet?) Coke (or Dr. Pepper). In the proper amount you’ve got a vanilla coke. Add a splash of juice out of the cherry jar, and you’ve got a cherry-vanilla soda with a grown-up kick. My second favorite is something that requires a trip, but it more than worth it — in Kentucky, a liqueur called “Maui” - but it’s available in the PINK shade (rather than the very-common Blue that is here in Ohio). Pink Maui tastes EXACTLY like fruit punch. Mix it with a lemon-lime soda, and you’ve got the equal of carbonated fruit punch. And you can add as much Maui as you want without hitting that shudder-stage when the booze overpowers the sweet mixer. And - might I also suggest, if you like tart drinks, you take a shot at a Kamikaze. They’re not bad either (but the hangover if you overdo it on them will make you WISH you had a plane to climb into and head for the ground.. ah, youth. Good times).

Kerri’s post reminded me of how good the kamikazes were at Walnut Hills on Wayne and Wyoming.

Jager bomb—it’ll put hair on your chest! Ha ha! Seriously, I love them. I also love slow gin fiz and bloody mary. I like my corona with lime, too.
