Design a shopping bag, win $1000 at Kroger

If you’ve got some design skills tucked up your sleeve, you could win a $1,000 gift card to Kroger by entering their 3rd annual Design a Reusable Shopping Bag Contest.

You can create and submit your design, as well as view the full contest rules, at http://www.kroger.com/green. Entries are being accepted through May 21.

The grand prize is, of course, the $1,000 Kroger gift card. Four finalists will get a $250 gift card, and five runners-up will get a $100 gift card.

The general theme for the contest goes along with the concept behind reusable shopping bags: reducing impact on the environment, going green, recycling, whatever you want to call it. The 2009 winner was from Columbus, Ohio.

Need more incentive? If you enter, you will receive a coupon loaded automatically onto your Kroger Plus shopper’s card for a reusable shopping bag.

And even if you don’t win, you can send your design to CafePress.com and buy a bag with your design on it there. One dollar of the proceeds will be donated to the National Parks Conservation Association.

In the meantime, tell us: do you regularly use reusable shopping bags? Or are you fine with the simple choice of paper or plastic?

I use reusable bags. I wish they could find a green solution to the miles of useless coupons that print out along with the receipts. There should be an alternative to all that paper as well as the shopping bag usage.
