Ten Top Women honored

The women honored as Ten Top Women had many, varied sources of inspiration for their success.

Some wanted to make their children proud. Others wanted to succeed in fields dominated by men. Many cited honoring God as the reason for their good works.

One theme was universal. All of them are the kind of women who cannot ignore problems.

They were honored Tuesday, Dec. 1, at a ceremony and luncheon at the Schuster Center in Dayton. Mistress of ceremonies was Ellen Belcher, editorial page editor of the Dayton Daily News.

On Tuesday, Eloise Broner said shortly after she learned she was one of the Ten Top Women, she was at home, cleaning up the kitchen. She also was helping one daughter with homework and another with a piano lesson. All of this occurred after a day of work as the chief operating officer at Good Samaritan Hospital.

Her husband asked her how she juggles it all.

“How can I not?” she told him. “How can I not. I think that’s what brought me here today.”

Honoree Joyce E. Price, the vice president and COO of the Community Action Partnership of Greater Dayton, said she was inspired to the occupation of social worker by an aunt who worked in that profession. She was driven by her father to care deeply about those she serves.

“My father told me if you have not helped somebody along the way, you have lived your life in vain,” Price said.

Honoree Lt. Gen. Terry L. Gabreski was pushed to success by a little helpful ignorance, she said. Now, the vice commander of the Air Force Material Command headquarters, Gabreski started her military career as an aircraft mechanic, a field almost exclusively served by men.

“It never occurred to me to be intimidated,” she said. “You don’t know what you don’t know.”

Those honored were selected because they serve as role models for others, both in terms of service to their community and service to their professions.

Also honored as top women were Mary Duley, Bobbie Gerhart, Dr. Judy Hennessey, Marilyn McCauley, Patricia S. Meadows, Dr. Marva Mitchell and Heidi R. Ries.

At least 2 of those women are a goodreason why Premeir Health Partners is one of the best if not the best rum company in Dayton. They are a shining example of what is right, and may keep this city from alive and relevant.

Political cronyism at its finest. Long standing traditions for Good Samaritan Hospital and Premeir Health Partners. Its not about merit folks… Look under the front cover of the book…
