American Idol contestant has Beavercreek ties
There are several weeks and several eliminations left in this season’s America Idol, but a teenager with local ties won’t be part of those shows.
Jasmine Murray was voted off the show on March 10. Her half-sister, Dana Murray Patterson, lives in Beavercreek and is the director for the Bolinga Black Cultural Resources Center at Wright State University.
Dana says her little sister, the baby of the family of 10 brothers and sisters, has always loved to perform, including in backyard talent shows as a child, in her home state of Mississippi.
“I think she definitely has star quality and has that presence,” Dana said. “It’s beyond just her ability to sing or to move. She’s definitely an entertainer. You can tell that’s something that she loves.”
Jasmine and Dana have the same father, Rev. Dr. Samuel J. Murray, who lives in Indianapolis.
Dana found out her sister was on the show via text message.
“My sister texted us and said Jasmine’s on the show and we were like, ‘What!” We started calling, way back before it aired… I don’t know that it really sank in until she made it to that top 13.”
But Jasmine made it no farther than the top 13, voted off after performing during Michael Jackson week.
“The best way to describe it is we were very hopeful and then very proud of how far she made it,” Dana said. “We’re still very proud. Not even an ounce of disappointment at all. A lot did not make it that point. I have nothing but great things to say about her performance.”

it constantly astounds me that everyone in the world has connections to the miami valley. Really, who cares? I could care less what her second cousin twice removed thinks. Maybe Kim Margolis could compose something worth substance

My wife and I were joking about the same thing. The DDN always finds some stupid way someone has ties to the Miami Valley. Unless they lived here for a significant amount of time, GIVE IT UP!!!

Jasmine might have been on the show a year or two too soon. She will get better with time.

WOW it astounds me how negitive some people are, the DDN is just trying to give us some intresting news that involves local people. If it bothers you so much maybe you shouldn’t read it instead of being so negitive!

I personally like to read a little “fluff” sometimes in light of all of the negative around us.

Ron-Don’t burn bridges. Now Kim Margolis may not cover Winterguard (WGI), one of the Miami Valley’s best claim to fame.

Oh my…it’s a blog not an article, so Ms. Margolis can write down what she may see as a piece of human interest. Get over it. If it bothers you that much then don’t read it. I personally know Dr. Patterson. She is very proud of her sister and a wonderful person. I was hoping that Jasmine would have gone a lot farther. She has a lot of talent.

Why this story is ridiculuos is because everybody knows somebody that knows somebody that is famous/ semi famous/ infamous/ was famous at one time/ had 15 min of fame etc,etc,etc….. Thats why is called 6 degrees of seperation.

I like that Kim is writing about people that have ties here. It helps me in my business, and may one day help us bring attention and business growth to this town that is ranked as one of the top ten Dying Cities in the USA!

American Idol is a joke. What everybody doesn’t know is that the audition process lasts forever. The ones that you see perform for the judges have already went through three auditions that day. The ones that people make fun of go straight to the judges after the first audition. I will never watch American Idol again now that I know this.

I really think Jasmine has alot of talent. She should have gone further than a few of the contestants that are still in. I’m sure her family is very proud.

I’m used to the people who complain about blog postings as silly. (often they are — intentionally) I’m used to people who think this is the only thing I do. (if that was true, you should mock me!) But I’m not used to all of you who write supportive comments, so thank you so much. I incredibly appreciate it. And to EVERYBODY — honestly, please come up with things I should write about. That’s part of the reason I do this.

More power to you Kim,keep up the good work..and please don’t stop keeping us abreast of good vibes for the miami valley community. I am a musician who grew up without IDOL.Didn’t get to shine like this, and wish I could have had the chance.
