Ribbon-cutting today for new billiards & whiskies bar

SPRINGBORO — A ribbon-cutting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. today, Feb. 10, at the newly opened Whiskey Barrel Bar & Billiards Co. at 857 W. Central Ave. (Ohio 73) next to Miami-Jacobs Career College.

Whiskey Barrel Bar & Billiards is owned by Jason Thomas of Springboro and Mike Ross of Clearcreek Twp., and is managed by John Sanderson of Troy. Its seating capacity is about 150 and it employs eight people.

Ross said he and Thomas saw the need for a billiards bar and restaurant in the area, which is saturated with family restaurants. The bar’s eight tournament-quality Diamond-brand pool tables have already proven to be a draw: “We have attracted two leagues already,” Ross said. The bar anticipates hosting tournaments and traveling billiards events, he said.

The bar is still assembling what will become an extensive list of American, Scotch and Irish whiskies, Ross said. “In 90 days, we’d like to have 100 to 150 whiskies available,” he said.

The food menu ranges from fresh mozzarella, tomato and basil salad and specialty pizza to wings and an angus beef burger.

Hours are 11 a.m. to midnight Sunday through Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 2:30 a.m. Friday and Saturday.
