New Oregon District brewpub aiming for May-June opening
DAYTON — The budding Oregon District brewpub called Toxic Brew Company that we first told you about back in April 2011 is now shooting for an opening in May or June, according to general manager and brewmaster Shane Juhl.
The brewpub will be located at 431 E. Fifth St. Juhl and his business partners are in the process navigating the licensing and permit processes and renovating the space.
Toxic Brew Company stands to benefit from changes in state law that were approved unanimously by both sides of the Ohio General Assembly and signed by Gov. Kasich in late December regarding microbreweries and brewpubs, Juhl said. The new law will take effect March 22.
While Toxic Brew will likely open in May or June with a license that allows it to serve its beer only, the new law will allow the brewpub to sell its beers by the glass in addition to all the traditional methods such as bottle, growler or keg, Juhl said.
“This gives us a lot more flexibility,” he said.
Eventually, plans call for Toxic Brew to add additional licenses expanding the selection with wine, liquor, and other choice beers, Juhl said.
