Dayton native introduces his California wines to his hometown, and much more
A BOATload of wine tastings and events this weekend and well into next week, and we can read all about ‘em thanks to the Dayton wine listserv that compiles this list and shares it with Uncorked. And here’s an interesting one that I’ll toss into the mix:
Dayton native Matt Unverferth, director of operations for the Napa-Sonoma Vineyard Group, will host a tasting of Eric K. James wines from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27 at the Oregon Express in Dayton’s Oregon Historic District. Unverferth is a 1975 Alter High School graduate and former classmate of Oregon Express owners Joe and Susan Bavaro, and the tasting is a “coming-out party” for the Eric K. James wines, which just recently became available in Ohio. Wines to be sampled include the Eric K James 2007 Carneros Pinot Noir, 2009 Carneros Chardonnay and 2009 Syrah Rose. Unverferth says he also plans to pour samples of his wines at Arrow Wine & Spirits’ Centerville-area store on Oct. 30.
Unverferth graduated from Ohio University in 1980 and moved out to northern California shortly afterward, and now runs a family-owned wine company.
