The World Cup of wine-tasting lists
If there WERE such a thing as a World Cup of wine-tasting lists, I do believe Dayton’s would be seeded in the top ten, don’t you think?
Uncork this list of Dayton-area tastings, dinners and special events below and just TRY to disagree.
Many thanks to the Dayton-based wine listserv that compiles this scrumptious list and shares it with Uncorked.

Shar, I’m not sure I understand your comment… Mark printed this list on Friday, June 25, 2010, 07:41 AM. From my review, the only tasting which occurred prior to that was DLM Washington Square Thursday, Jun 24.

Would be nice to have a list BEFORE the fact so people can actually go to the wine tastings - is there a special web site that gives them out ahead of time, instead of after?

Boy, Max, that was insightful. It is not hard to offer really good wine - J. Phelps Insignia of any vintage would qualify. But name 10 people in this town the buy wine at that price. Wine reps and the owners of the distributors offer wine that actually may sell. Taste all the Insignia you want, but most people won’t buy it bc it is expensive. When did picking out expensive wine become a hard job Max? The rub here is to find new wine, quality wine at a price people are willing to spend. Yep, go pour Insignia - that is a great wine. Again, it is not difficult to find a real good wine. Max, you are one of “those” guys… Mr. Expert…

“If there WERE such a thing as a World Cup of wine-tasting lists, I do believe Dayton’s would be seeded in the top ten, don’t you think?”———-No, because the World Cup has a ‘qualification’ process for teams to participate. Wine tastings in Dayton are generally a mix bag ranging from grade school soccer to an occassional WC contender. Not on the lists (I might have missed it) is the Phelps Insignia 2005 Cab which is a Napa elegant to which similar vintages aspire. But, wine reps, instead, try to keep their offerings below the $50 level-hence quality - to encourage sales. Variety is good but as in most matters of taste and judgment, quantity does not define quality; in some cases, quantity obscures quality.
