Celebrating Memorial Day weekend with wine events, winery visits
If you’ve been curious about Barolo and the nebbiolo grape that reaches its absolute peak of perfection in that region of Italy, it looks like Jay’s Kitchen Door is the place you’ll want to be tonight, May 28. Three Barolos are on the tasting list tonight at Jay’s, and one other one on Saturday. And this weekend is your chance to taste the new-release whites at Kinkead Ridge and your only chance to visit the winery this summer. Also, the 2009 Rose wines are beckoning. Those are just three highlights nestled in this Miami Valley wine tastings and events list that comes to Uncorked via the selfless, public-service efforts of the Dayton-based wine listserv that compiles the list and shared it with its subscribers.
In addition, Nancy Bentley from Kinkead Ridge reminds us that in addition to her winery in Ripley being open this Memorial Day weekend (May 29 and May 31 — it’s closed Sunday) for the release of the 2009 Kinkead Ridge Viognier/Roussanne and 2009 River Village Cellars White Wine, the Harmony Hill winery will also open for the season those days, with a full release of 2009 wines and entertainment. And as the list itself mentions, the La Vigna Estate Winery in Georgetown, Ohio (www.lavignaestatewinery.com) also is open on Saturday and Monday of Memorial Day weekend.

Kinkead Ridge Winery Memorial Day Weekend Saturday May 29 and Monday May 31, 2010 10 a.m. to 6 p.m The winery will open for the release of the 2009 white wines. The vineyard will be open on Saturday only and maps are available at the winery. The new releases are the 2009 Kinkead Ridge Viognier/Roussanne, and the 2009 River Village Cellars White Wine. The winery will not be open this summer.
