Share your best wine and kissing story

If you would like to be able to say, someday, that you “wrote the book” on wine and kissing, well … this web site entitled simply wineandkissing.com is for you.

The web site’s premise:

Call it remarkable, call it alchemy, call it magic…wine before and after a precious kiss is not the same wine. Perhaps you have a story to share of a romantic experience that involved wine? I want you to tell me about…
WINE AND A MEMORABLE KISS OR KISSES … YOUR MOST SENSUOUS DESCRIPTION OF WINE … WINE THAT BROUGHT TWO PEOPLE TOGETHER … THE MOST ROMANTIC PLACE THAT INVOLVED WINE … THE MOST ROMANTIC PERSON WITH WHOM YOU SHARED WINE … A STORY INVOLVING LOVE AND WINE

No, it’s not an invitation to soft-core … well, you know. But it might not be rated PG either. But it is legitimate, in that the link to the web site arrived in my email inbox accompanied by an email from Paul Wagner, owner and president of Balzac Communications and Marketing. Here’s an excerpt from his email:

I am writing to you with a rather unusual request, and I hope you will take the time to help. As you may know, I teach a class at Napa Valley College called “A Cultural Appreciation of Wine.” It’s an exploration of wine and culture throughout history, and we touch on everything from wine and medicine to art, religion, politics, and love. One of my students, Elisabet Alhambra (her pen name), became very interested in the connection between wine and romance—-the connection between the touch of a glass to the lips, and the touching of two pairs of lips together. She’s had a lot of fun with the project, and she is spending her free time researching historic literature for more fun. She has found some wonderful quotes and passages—and we think there just might be the kernel of book in all of this. But we also think that this book might be even more fun if we could get a few of the more entertaining and visible people in the wine industry to offer a few thoughts on the topic of wine and love, kissing and romance.

So there. If you’re a reader of Uncorked, I consider you one of the “more entertaining and visible people in the wine industry,” so … share and share away, both on Elisabet’s web site and, of course, right here on Uncorked.

If you dare.

I drank a bottle of Akadama rice wine when I was young. Years later I saw a punk rocker at the airport and stared at him. He was covered in beaded black leather, sides of his head were bald, his hair was pink and about 8 inches tall from front to back down the center of his skull. He glowered at me and snarled: “Whatsa’ matter old man, never down anything WILD in your life!!!! I said: “Yes, I have. I drank a bottle of rice wine once, had sex once with a parrot, and I was wondering if you were my son.”

So many in the industry drink wine and tell, I wonder how many are willing to kiss and tell. This particular gentleman will abstain.
