… And then there were nine

The 10-person race for West Chester Twp. trustees shrunk slightly last week.

Now, nine people are vying for the two seats to be vacated at the end of this year, including incumbents Catherine Stoker and Lee Wong.

On Sept. 30, candidate Bruce Jones withdrew his petition to run for the seat. I spoke with Jones after he withdrew and he said it basically boiled down to a lack of confidence for a positive outcome in such a crowded race.

It’s too late for Jones’ name to be removed from the Nov. 3 ballot, according to Board of Elections officials. That’s because ballots were certified on Aug. 27.

Elections officials said a notice will be posted at each election site (and more specifically each polling station) notifying voters that Jones has withdrawn. Notices are also sent out to absentee voters.

I also find it interesting Jones takes the opportunity to take a shot at former Butler County Auditor Kay Rogers, who is awaiting sentencing in federal court after pleading guilty to bank fraud charges.

Jones contends Rogers somehow coerced her son, Sean, into running for trustee.

The following is his letter to the editor explaining his decision. (Click the upper right corner of the box to enlarge the letter. Click the upper right corner again to return to the blog post.)

My prediction? Jones will not be the last candidate to withdraw from the race.

Thanks God someoneone has the courage to call it straight with Kay Rogers. Too bad Jones didn’t stay in - he’d have our vote!

Mr.Jones didn’t have a chance after taking on Pat Williams and the establishment of Schumacher-Dugan’ville.

Back when Jones ran against treasurer Pat Williams, George Lang was her treasurer. If only Jones knew about Lang’s $300k Dynus involvement, coupled with Kay Rogers being Lang’s treasurer, the outcome may have been different. Lang will not survive next time. Wait till them Bruce and run again.
