Amber Robinson coverage

It’s been a busy week, as my absence in this space was caused by a week of vacation followed by a local tragedy.

Here’s a synopsis of our coverage.

On Thursday, Sept. 10, West Chester police were called out to the North Pointe Townhomes off Muhlhauser Road two times.

After arriving just after 7 p.m. that night on a reported disturbance, they left the scene following an investigation they said revealed no crimes had been committed.

About a half hour later, they returned to the complex to find out the situation had escalated, and that 15-year-old Amber Robinson had been stabbed to death.

In less than 12 hours, they had arrested a suspect in the Lakota West’s sophomore’s murder and issued an arrest warrant for a Cincinnati-area juvenile they believed to be connected.

Then on Monday, police released information about a fight that occurred Friday, Sept. 11, at Lakota West. Police said they believed the fight (two students against one during a morning class change) happened as a result of the fatal stabbing the night before.

Late Monday, police issued felony warrants for two of the students involved because they said the injuries the victim suffered were so severe.

On Tuesday, the murder suspect appeared in Butler County Area III Court on a preliminary hearing, where details continued to emerge in Robinson’s death. Later that night, the two Lakota West students turned themselves in.

All three juveniles (the 17-year-old charged with complicity to murder and the two Lakota West students allegedly involved in the Sept. 11 fight) are due in court Tuesday, Sept. 22. We’ll have that covered for you.

Finally, on Thursday, Robinson was laid to rest during a funeral at Zion Global Ministries off U.S. 42 in West Chester. More than 500 people attended the service, which was gut-wrenching, needless to say. The church’s senior pastor pleaded with those in attendance to stifle their anger despite the tragedy.

Meanwhile, we’ve got dozens of photos in this gallery, including from the funeral and during a candlelight ceremony that took place Saturday, Sept. 12.\

You can also send your condolences to the Robinson family here.
