Aggregation issues
West Chester Twp. trustees approved at their last meeting an agreement to retain the consultant that has managed the township’s natural gas aggregation program. The agreement provides management for the program for the remainder of its two-year cycle.
Trustees unanimously approved the measure, but only after trustee George Lang expressed his concern about the program. Though I don’t have his exact quote, he said he was concerned that the program, in which natural gas users contract as a group with a provider with the goal of obtaining a lower energy cost for the year, interferes with the ebb and flow of the free market. The other trustees pointed out that participants in the program have the ability to opt out at any time, but Lang still said he intends to vote against continuing the program after this two-year cycle expires.
So what do you think about the aggregation program? Do you participate in it to get your natural gas? Do you think it is a better alternative to choosing a provider on your own, or, like Lang, do you think it puts too much regulation on the market?
