A roundabout primer

According to the Butler County Engineer’s Office, there are two new roundabouts coming to the county this summer. The traffic controlling, gas saving road structures are planned for the Lakota Ridge Drive/Eagle Ridge Drive intersection in West Chester Twp. and the Hamilton-Mason Road/Vinnedge Road intersection in Fairfield Twp.

Since these structures aren’t exactly commonplace in the county, the BCEO has published a pamphlet on how to navigate a single-lane roundabout. I picked one up at the West Chester Police station.

The pamphlet includes a link to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s info page on roundabouts. The web page is an excellent resource for info on how to safely use a roundabout, and for why it’s a more efficient, safer traffic control method than a stoplight. Go to it here, then share your thoughts: do you think the roundabouts will be a good thing for the county?
