West Chester Twp. to get SWAT vehicles
West Chester Twp. bought armored trucks last night.
Not something that happens every day.
To expand: the township approved the purchase of three vehicles for West Chester Police SWAT. The vehicles, from what I’ve been told, are designed to provide on-site command, get officers safely to and from a “hot” situation and provide protection in high-risk situations.
The money - almost a half million - comes from money raised by auctioning off items forfeited to WCPD. The township is not able to use that money for day-to-day operations, but can use it for specific items. Like armored vehicles.
There were questions raised by township residents over whether WCPD really needs these vehicles. They do have the ability to conduct high-water rescues, I’ve been told, but that didn’t seem to satisfy the person doing the question-raising.
I read the police reports every week, and I have my own opinions on this topic.
But this isn’t a forum for my opinions; it’s for yours.
What do you think? Is there enough crime - or potential for natural disaster - to justify the vehicles? Middletown apparently has one, too.
I’m curious to hear your thoughts. Post away.
