Ribbon-cutting today for reborn Neil’s Heritage House

KETTERING — Neil’s Heritage House, the reborn restaurant at 2323 W. Schantz Ave. that we first told you about more than a year ago, will host a ribbon-cutting from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today, Nov. 29.

“Everything old is new again” was the tag line on an announcement of the ribbon-cutting, reflecting that Neil’s has been closed since 2006 after enjoying a five-decade run as a popular dining and banquet destination. Eric Leventhal and Serena Walther Leventhal, the husband-and-wife team that owns the restaurant, moved back to Ohio from California to undertake the project of resurrecting the restaurant. Serena is the granddaughter of Neil Swafford, the founder of the restaurant that was owned and operated in later years by Walter Schaller.

The new Neil’s seats about 85 in what was (and is) called the “Tenderloin Room.” The facility also offers multiple banquet facilities that can accommodate large community gatherings, receptions, meetings and other events, the Leventhals said.

Appetizers and beverages will be served at tonight’s event, which is open to the public, according to Serena Walther Leventhal. Neil’s Heritage House serves lunch Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., dinner Tuesday through Saturday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., with “late plates” served from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m., You can check out the restaurant’s dinner menu here.
