Pizza chain poised to expand in Dayton area
KETTERING — Romeo’s Pizza, the Cleveland-based pizza chain that we first told you about in February when it opened its first Dayton-area location in Beavercreek, will open its second location around the first of the year at 3602 Wilmington Pike in Kettering, Stan Combs of Brookville, the general manager of the Beavercreek pizza shop and the new Kettering location, said this morning.
Combs said the “overwhelming success” of the pizza chain’s Beavercreek location led to the decision to expand. The Kettering location on Wilmington Pike near Marshall Road was selected because of its visibility, easy access and ability to serve Kettering and Centerville, he said. Long-term plans call for Dayton-area franchise owners Joe Fisher and John McDonald to open two more Dayton-area restaurants, for a total of five, by the end of 2013. The locations of the Englewood shop and the two additional restaurants have not been selected. The franchise owners then want to expand into the Indianapolis area, Combs said.
The Kettering storefront has been vacant since Fox’s Pizza closed in February 2010. Combs said plans initially called for opening the Kettering store six months ago, but the local franchise owners decided to wait until the large-scale road construction project along Wilmington Pike and East Dorothy Lane was complete.
The new Kettering restaurant will seat eight but will be primarily a carryout and delivery operation, Combs said. It will employ about 23 people.
