New weight classes expected in OHSAA wrestling

From the Times Reporter:

Looks like there’s a change coming in the world of high school wrestling.

The National Federation of State High School Associations has revised the 14 weight classes with a shift upwards.

The old weight classes - 103, 112, 119, 125, 130, 135, 140, 145, 152, 160, 171, 189, 215 and 285 - all are shifting.

The low weight moves up to 106 pounds and from there it goes to 113, 120, 126, 132, 138, 145, 152, 160, 170, 182, 195, 220 and 285.

To break it down, last year there were 10 weight classes at 160 pounds or below and now there will be nine.

While the OHSAA hasn’t officially announced that it will change to meet the national guidelines, it’s expected they will.
