Graham battles Bellefontaine for CBC supremacy

Graham and Bellefontaine didn’t play in Central Buckeye Conference regular season play.

Tonight at Springfield High School, they’ll decide who really is the best team in the CBC when the two schools face off in a D-II sectional final at 7:30 p.m.

Graham won the CBC Mad River Division for the fifth straight season, finishing the year 17-5. They advanced to the districts for each of the last three seasons.

Bellefontaine went 12-10 a season ago. This year, they lost to Celina in the season opener and haven’t lost since. They’ll enter the game with a 21-1 record.

With a combined 38 wins, most would expect a high-scoring affair. But the Chieftains rank first in the CBC in defense at 36.4, while Graham is second at 42.1.

Personnel-wise, the Falcons will have a tough time matching up with Bellefontaine’s height, especially 6-7 center Michael Bean-Breaston.

The Chieftains will, however, have to find a way to shut down Graham’s leading scorer Nick VanHoose, who ranks second in the league in scoring at 18.1 ppg. He’s also tied with Bellefontaine’s Josh Jones as the league leader in steals (2.6).
