Witt football ranked in top 10 of preseason polls
The Wittenberg football team’s 12-1 season in 2009 and its run to the national quarterfinals left an impression on voters in the preseason football polls.
The Tigers are ranked eighth in The Sporting News preseason top 25 and ninth in Lindy’s preseason poll.
Wisconsin-Whitewater, the defending national champion and the team Wittenberg hung with for three quarters in the playoffs, is ranked No. 1 in both polls.
Wittenberg’s main NCAC rival, Wabash, is 23rd in The Sporting News poll.
Wittenberg returns its two two receivers, its top two running backs and three of its top four tacklers in 2010. Its biggest loss is four-year starting quarterback Aaron Huffman
The Tigers open the season at home at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, against Olivet. It plays at home the first three Saturdays of the season, following that game with games against Ohio Wesleyan (Sept. 11) and Washington University (Sept. 18).
