Springfield’s Bass wins Division I long jump title
Springfield High School sophomore Josh Bass won the long jump crown with a leap of 23 feet, 2.5 inches at the Division I state track and field championships at Ohio State’s Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on Saturday, June 6.
“I’m grateful for everything,” Bass said. “Happy, surprised for a matter of fact. I’m surprised I could do it.”
With the victory, Bass becomes the first athlete to win a state championship for Springfield High since the school’s merged last fall. He also finished the season unbeaten in the long jump.
“It’s a great feeling,” Bass said. “I’ve never felt anything like this.”
