Springfield softball gets its first win

The Springfield High School softball team won the first game in the program’s one-year history with a 15-9 win against Catholic Central on Wednesday, April 1.

The Wildcats (1-2) scored five runs in the fourth inning.

Jamie Easterday had nine strikeouts and pitched all seven innings. Cecelia DeBartolo had four hits, and Brittny Biles had two hits and three RBIs.

Julia Kuntz had three RBIs for Catholic Central.

Last season the team competed as two different schools: North and South. Those schools merged before the 2008-09 year.

Leaver 3-0 for No. 6 Georgia

Shawnee graduate Jason Leaver was the winning pitcher on Wednesday for the University of Georgia in a 6-5 defeat of Clemson.

Wallace, Gaines teammates in AF2

Chris Wallace likes having Jerrid Gaines as a teammate — up to a certain point. Quarterbacks and defensive backs, after all, are always going to have their differences, even if they are both former South High School Wildcats. “He had a tip-ball pick in camp,” Wallace said. “He can’t have more than one.”
