New state-record catfish caught on Ohio River
A new state record blue catfish has been certified by the Outdoor Writers of Ohio.
The fish was caught on the Ohio River near Cincinnati on Thursday, June 11 by Chris Rolph of Williamsburg. He was fishing from a boat and landed the fish at 12:45 a.m. The fish weighted 96 pounds, was 54.5 inches long and had a girth of 36 inches.
After the weighing the fish was safely released into a large farm pond.
The record fish destroys the previous record of 57 pounds. The blue catfish was added to the state record list in 2008 after it was changed from endangered to a species of special concern.
