New eatery nabs ‘Most Delightful Dessert’ title
A newcomer has “Dayton’s Most Delightful Dessert.”
Olive: an urban dive won both the Critic’s Choice and People’s Choice awards at the Carillon Historical Park’s Ringing in The Holidays fund-raiser Saturday, Nov. 19.
When I say it is a newcomer, I mean it. The restaurant opened just this summer in the former Wympee location at 416 E. Third St.
It wowed a panel of judges - myself included - with its Champagne Chocolate Truffle Tart. It was very fancy. A champagne whipped cream and an almond sesame Florentine cookie decorated a chocolate truffle tart with raspberries.
The Dayton Women’s Club won the panel over in the best presentation category with its Holiday Du Jour - layered, spiced carrot cake with an apple-cranberry chutney accented by cream cheese frosting.
I was joined in judging by WDTN reporter Jim Bucher, AIDS Resource Center Ohio Special Events Director Lisa Grigsby and Daytonmostmetro.com food bloggers Kevin “Superfry” Fry and Steve “The Big Ragu” Milano.
