Miami Valley School rock band wins Dayton playoffs

The Outliers - an alternative rock group made up of four students from The Miami Valley School — took first place in the 2011 Dayton Band Playoffs at Canal Street Tavern.
The band includes 15-year-old sophomores David Busarow, vocals/rhythm guitar; John Winch, bass; and Sam Pickard, drums; and 13-year-old Jack ‘Badgley.’, lead guitarist.
Their victory on Sept. 24 nabbed them cash prizes as well as 40 hours of studio time at Babblefish Recording Studios, said Mike Pickard, father of the drummer.
While the group can play covers, it won the playoffs by playing sets of all-original music, Mike Pickard said.

I’m sure the youngsters are fine musicians (and the video does certainly demonstrate some skill). However I still find it odd that teenagers are playing CST, especially as young as 13. I didn’t realize that was even legal. Apparently, times have changed. There used to be a dividing line between the kids and the adults, but I guess if a mother and father can hold their children while sipping a beer at Applebees, those times are gone. Watch the video and you can’t help but hear the screams of teenage girls in the background. lol In any case, good job to the band.
