Dave Chappelle sticks up for area during radio show

Dave Chappelle is a proud Buckeye.

The internationally known comic took up for Ohio and area residents during a recent interview on San Francisco’s Wild 94.9 station.

“Are people in Ohio mad because you don’t have to live there but they do,” DJ JV asked around the 6-minute mark of the video below.

He then ‘joked’ that Ohioans have no money or talent.

Chappelle, who lives near Yellow Springs and is often spotted out and about in Dayton, defended the state’s residents.

“Where I live, some of the people do have talent, some of them do have money,” Chappelle said.

He looked annoyed after the DJ cracked that ‘some’ Ohioans have teeth too.

“Ohio is not as bad as people would think,” Chappelle said. “The thing is that it is a mixed bag. There are people who are just not going to like you. They say stuff like ‘nice car Dave’ because I don’t work hard enough for their (midwest) sensibility.”

It was Chappelle’s first interview in five years. Too bad it wasn’t conducted by a talented person.

What do you think?

Is always funny how a bunch of know nothing and not famous radio guys think they’re so clever and funny. Total idiots

And another DJ who thinks he needs to do his “act” while interviewing a comedian. If you’re going to louse up an interview with your “jokes”, at least be funny.

Stupid DJ should try Googling “famous people from Ohio”. There are so many famous (and rich) people from Ohio that I couldn’t list them all here, but to name a few: Bob Hope, Clark Gable, Halle Berry, George Clooney, Dorothy Dandridge, Doris Day, Tim Conway, Dean Martin, Burgess Meredith, Paul Newman, Jonathan Winters and many, many more!

Guys we’re talking about some DJ in market #4 which I doubt makes enough to live anywhere close to where he works. Sure his income may look great on paper, but include all of the other factors and it’s a different story. People who are not happy with thier lives often try to put down others. I’m not going to even get into the numerous Cali companies which are investing in this no money having untalented area.

From my travels, it does seem that people in many areas of the U.S. hold a dim view of Ohio. Typical comments are, “Ohio? Who would want to live in Ohio? What is in Ohio that anyone would care about?” And its not just Ohio, but this region that people denigrate as “the Rust Belt.” The reality is that this so-called Rust Belt was the engine that drove America’s rise to prominence. And, is it any coincidence that the decline of the Great Lakes region has also seen the decline of the U.S. economy as a whole?

I personally am sick of people making uneducated statements about the kind of people who live in Ohio. Ohio is just like any other state…it has just as many talented, intelligent, rich, poor, etc. as other states. You can’t tell me people in California, Florida, etc. are better, smarter, richer than some of the folks who live in Ohio…that DJ needs to get over himself…not funny at all.

I’m still waiting for the “big one” to crack California and break it off from the rest of the U.S. Is there a state more mismanaged and home to more idiots anywhere?

That DJ sounds very uneducated, I would be embarrassed if I lived in his area. In one of the previous comments someone pointed out a few of the famous and talented actors from Ohio, and he is right, if you compare state by state, Ohio is at the top.

I’m from Ohio. Met Dave at Dayton int airport. Cool guy. As far as insensitive comments about Ohio, I don’t care what some bald chicano in a stretched out t-shirt says. He walked out of the house looking like that, so what does that tell you about his mentality?

WHO is this JERK?? Not very famous, I would assume. Never heard of this unfunny comic. Hope I never hear him. We have all kinds of jerks around pretending to be famous, but I DO NOT want to see his ugly face or hear his voice. Tune him OUT.

But …did you notice though, that all those famous actors, writers, singers, etc all made it big AFTER they left Ohio???? Just saying… We left last year….sorry, but this state is a drain on your life.

My husband and I met Dave last year at the Starbucks by Wright State and let me just tell you Dave came up to us and said hi and reached his hand out to shake our hands. He was very nice and I will never forget the t-shirt he had on it said I Heart Ohio..I have lived in Ohio for 10 years and my husband all his life and things have been fine for us. Not everyone in Ohio is at poverty level, my husband and I have good jobs and are doing just fine. You are what you make of yourself.

I guess this so called DJ, forgot the WRIGHT BROTHERS! Or NCR or the Cincinnati Reds Big Red Machine of the 70’s or some Medal Of honr winners from Ohio. Ooops I forgot, this person lives in La La Land. The land of the Pot Rx plan. So screw him. As for Dave, I have met him many times at Wileys Comedy CLub. He stops in from time to time on Fri and Sat and doesnew stuff. So you get a free show with him from time to time..

@Judi, Looks like we caught you in a lie Judy! Why did you refer to Ohio as “this state” if you don’t live there? You are obviously lying, and you are also the type of person any state could do without! You’re the drain! You obviously don’t know how those people got their start, they just didn’t move and become famous, lol, you also seem very uneducated.
